Should we upgrade main + v6.0.x to the latest GNU Autotools? Or are any of them old enough to update to at least something newer (even if it's not the latest)?

I don't have an opinion. Maybe we should discuss at our next OMPI RM meeting in January?

Probably ok to merge this in now so that we have the entry in the table.
We've typically reviewed the Autotools versions at major releases to see if it's worthwhile to upgrade the minimum versions.
