Description
We've been saying that, when maintainers don't get paid, they burn out, because they can't live sustainably (eg can't pay rent). This is implied in “The Open Source Sustainability Crisis”.
At WordCamp and AltCtrlOrg in Basel, there was a lot of talk about burnout, but some people disagreed that financial reasons are the primary cause of burnout — for example, Olivier Dobberkau.
@karmatosed was another such person, and she kindly and helpfully shared some of her views on burnout with me at WordCamp.
Maybe it would be helpful to write a blog post on the Pledge website about the causes of maintainer burnout. Presenting a more balanced and in-depth account of burnout might help us make our own case about burnout stronger.
Maybe part of this post could be an interview with @karmatosed, who knows — let's think about what might work! :)
