FluidSynthPlugin not working on Pop!_OS 22.04 and REAPER 7.33

I followed these steps to install the plugin:

1. Downloaded REAPER 7.33 and installed it under /opt on Pop!_OS 22.04
2. Downloaded the latest release of FluidSynthPlugin (v0.7.5) and extracted the whole zip file to ~/.vst3.
3. Installed the fluidsynth package using sudo apt install fluidsynth -y
4. Re-scanned using the "Clear cache and re-scan VST paths for all plug-ins" option.
5. I noticed that the VSTi was missing when i tried to add it as an FX to a new track.
6. When i reopened the re-scan menu, the FluidSynthPlugin.vst3 appears under Plug-ins that failed to scan.

I don't know what i'm doing wrong.

Yes, i have installed the fluidsynth package for my distro via the command you provided in the manual before posting.
I am in the process of removing everything (REAPER, FluidSynthPlugin and the fluidsynth apt package) and their respective configuration files to try and do a clean install.

I will await further guidance!

well, I am a bit clueless here.

I - and also other users - have tested the FluidSynthPlugin in Ubuntu and Fedora Linux without any problems, as soon as the fluidsynth package is installed. I assume that PopOS has similar mechanisms and that a dynamic library like FluidSynthPlugin.vst3 automatically accesses any installed dynamic libraries.

So once the package is installed, you should rescan the VSTs in Reaper and the FluidSynthPlugin should work.

I read about your succesful install on #22.
I noticed that the version of Ubuntu that you were using was 24.04, and I'm using 22.04. Also, the version of Reaper mentioned in that issue was 7.2.8, mine is 7.33.
Maybe the problem has something to do with an outdated version of the fluidsynth package or an updated version of Reaper?
Just to be more precise, the most recent version of fluidsynth I can install is 2.2.5-1.

Is that ok?

I forgot to mention this in my previous comment.
I managed to do a clean install of everything without any success.
The same behaviour appeared once i tried to scan the plugin after installing everything.

I have a good explanation why your build does not work: I assume you are using JUCE8. The current release has problems with the changes in the framework and I am providing a new release in the next days fixing those.

I have a good explanation why your build does not work:

I don't remember if i mentioned this, but i did not build the plugin from source. I just downloaded the v0.7.5's Linux zip file and tried using that.
I'm going to try the build you released two weeks ago (v0.7.6) and see if i come back with any findings.

Sorry for the delay, i've been focusing on other things. Thanks for not closing this issue!
I've just tested the latest release (v0.7.8) as it can be downloaded from the repo in the most recent version of REAPER (v7.53) with the same results.
I made a fresh install of Pop!_OS 22.04 build 58 (which is the system that i use on my laptop) on a VM to test this, so I can't rule out the Ubuntu version being the culprit.
What would you suggest I do?

I have installed Pop!_OS 22.04 in a virtual machine and I can reproduce the effect you have described.
I shall look into the issue, my gut feeling is that some library is missing in Pop!_OS.

the problem is as follows: Pop!_OS 22.04 is based on a Linux kernel version (Jammy 22.04) now more than three and half years old. That kernel has old versions of the libraries libstdc++ and especially of libc (v2.35, required by FSP is v2.38).

While you could install a newer version of libstdc++ via some trickery, replacing libc is completely out of the question, because this would ruin your distribution.

As far as I know, the next version Pop!_OS 24.04 is scheduled for December 11th. If you plan to upgrade at all, then your best bet for using FluidSynthPlugin is to wait for that version and try again.

Or if you're really adventurous you could already install the current beta version via
sudo pop-upgrade release upgrade -f

Keep me informed whether you have been successful. Meanwhile I'll keep that issue open.
