This PR removes the two extra files in the root of the repo which were used to store notes and assist with the speedup_import investigation.
To the best of my knowledge the associated issue has been resolved and should be closed. In case we need to re-open it and do further investigation I created the speedup_import tag which we would use to retrieve the deleted files.
This closes #369
