Insufficient focus contrast for links on home page

As outlined in #1363:

The “Check it out!” link’s focus outline has a contrast ratio of ~1.66:1 , which is below the minimum 3:1.

The focus outline needs to be clearly visible in order to distinguish the focussed element.
