Hi @sdispater and thank you for interesting new features in 1.2.0a1 (like ability to add packages in editable mode) but I have the same issue during install preview version 1.2.0a1 — there is not poetry-1.2.0a1-linux.sha256sum file in Assets for this Pre-release:

Steps to reproduce on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS:

1. Install poetry by custom installer:

$ curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/python-poetry/poetry/master/get-poetry.py | python3 -
...
Installing version: 1.1.6
  - Downloading poetry-1.1.6-linux.tar.gz (72.33MB)

Poetry (1.1.6) is installed now. Great!

2. Configuring shell:

$ source $HOME/.poetry/env

3. Check installed version:

$ poetry -V
Poetry version 1.1.6

4. Try to install preview version (1.2.0a1):

$ poetry self update --preview
Updating to 1.2.0a1

Temporary workaround — use classic pip to install pre-release:

Updated: I think the issue is normal situation because I see in Changes for 1.2.0a1:

The usage of the get-poetry.py script is now deprecated and is replaced by the install-poetry.py script. (#3706)

I found and tried to use install-poetry.py script but it does not work properly for self updating (including preview versions):

Poetry (1.1.6) is installed now. Great!

Check installed version:

Got new issue with new installer script install-poetry.py — Poetry was not installed with the recommended installer. Cannot update automatically:

$ poetry self update --preview

Please note that with 1.2.0a1, the usage of get-poetry.py script is deprecated. The new installation mechanism means that you cannot upgrade from 1.1.z via self update comment. See #4040 (comment) for context on why this might not be supported. The recommended upgrade path is to uninstall 1.1.z and use install-poetry.py script.

Further, the new installation mechanism no longer requires the vendored release artifacts, hence platform specific distributions are not provided with releases going forward.
