Converting qs data files to qs2 data files

Since qs is going away and qs2 is here to stay, is there a way to convert the old qs data to qs2 data. Many analyses and other such information are stored in the old format; this includes data and test datasets in our packages that relied on qs

Hi Matt, the only way is to read in with qs and then write back out with qs2. Even after removal from CRAN, you should still be able to install qs via github on R 4.5 (no guarantee with R 4.6 though).

Yes, this means that all the qs files will be un-usable once this goes away on many systems that require CRAN (like regulated systems), or maybe in R 4.6 as you stated.

So, would this happen with qs2 as well? Is it not really a stable file storage format?

From my user's point of view, they saved a model that uses qs internally and then they can no longer load that model, which is problematic for the users of my packages. I was hoping that there was a work-around planned since others may need qs files as well.

By CRAN's policies, if I code a work-around, it uses qs which will be removed from CRAN, my packages will be removed from CRAN.

To me, saving to qs is not really necessary, but some backward compatibility (even simply reading the format) would really be helpful.
