Build of Ruby 2.1.3 is stuck on Debian

I'm having troubles with installation of Ruby 2.1.3.

I execute 'rbenv install -v 2.1.3' and some time later I see the same message printed out infinitely:

uname says:

What could be the issue here?

@AndrewPanin It seems issue caused by 3.2.0-4-686-pae kernel. I'll investigate this.

I get this issue with DigitalOcean droplet Ubuntu 14.04 x64, 'rbenv install 2.1.3' stuck for several hours, without giving any error.

strange. When I do
rbenv install 2.1.3 -v

the process finished successfully.

Thanks for reporting. Could this be a dup of #642 where 2.1.3 builds stalls for hours? Note that the people reporting that all seem to be on OS X, though.

Hi, folks!
I'm currently having similar issue at debian 7, 3.2.0-4-amd64 kernel.
First I've tried to update ruby upto 2.1.4 via chef, but it terminated by timeout.
Now I just run rbenv install 2.1.4 and it is running about an hour already.

I had this problem installing 2.1.5 on a Raspberry Pi.

Turned out the error message was correct as the system clock had been set to some time in the past (the Raspberry Pi does not have a hardware clock).

sudo date --set "2014-11-15 11:23:00"

seems to have solved the problem, at least got rid of the complaint that 'common.mk' has a modification time in the future. Adding this here just in case someone else is in the same situation.

I wanted to provide an update to this.

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64-bit) via VMPlayer. I tried using

rbenv install 2.1.3

but it was just stuck.

Followed the suggestion in this thread, tried

CC=clang rbenv install 2.1.3

The error provided was that C Compiler was not working. Detailed logs were stored in

config.log

in the following path

/tmp/ruby-build..xxxxx/ruby-2.1.3/

Log proved to be useful. clang was missing. Installed it.

However, rbenv install 2.1.3 still did not work. CC=clang rbenv install 2.1.3 worked.
