Code Review

This pull request, automatically generated by Snyk, upgrades @angular/compiler and @angular/core to fix security vulnerabilities. However, this is a major version jump from v5 to v19, and only these two packages are being updated. This will almost certainly break the application, as all other @angular/* packages and related dependencies like RxJS and TypeScript are left on versions compatible with Angular 5. I've left a critical comment detailing the necessary steps to perform a complete and safe upgrade. A full migration of the Angular framework is required, which is a significant undertaking.

critical

This is a major version upgrade for @angular/compiler and @angular/core from v5 to v19. While this fixes the security vulnerabilities, it is very likely to break your application because the other Angular dependencies are still on v5. All @angular/* packages in your dependencies and devDependencies should be on the same major version.

You should upgrade all other @angular/* packages to a compatible version, for example ^19.2.18.

Here are the other Angular packages that need to be updated:

  • @angular/animations: ^5.2.0
  • @angular/common: ^5.2.0
  • @angular/forms: ^5.2.0
  • @angular/http: ^5.2.0 (Note: @angular/http is deprecated and has been replaced by @angular/common/http since Angular 4.3. You will need to migrate to HttpClient.)
  • @angular/platform-browser: ^5.2.0
  • @angular/platform-browser-dynamic: ^5.2.0
  • @angular/router: ^5.2.0
  • @angular/cli: ~1.7.0
  • @angular/compiler-cli: ^5.2.0
  • @angular/language-service: ^5.2.0

Additionally, other dependencies will likely need to be updated to be compatible with Angular 19:

  • rxjs (from v5 to v7+)
  • typescript (from v2.5 to v5.x)
  • zone.js
  • angularfire2 (needs to be migrated to @angular/fire)

This is a significant upgrade and will likely require many code changes to adapt to the new Angular version. Please refer to the Angular Update Guide for assistance with the migration from v5 to v19.

Given the extent of the required changes, it might be better to use the Angular CLI's ng update command to perform the upgrade, as it can handle some of the migrations automatically.
