wpcom api -- get a feedUrl for a post

is there a way using the wpcom api to go from a site_ID to the url of the feed for the site?

i know i could hard-code it by adding /feed/ to the end of the site url, but i prefer not to hard-code.

this little system i'm putting together uses both site_ID and feedUrl to identify a site.

There isn't right now, no. You can append /?feed=rss2 to the end of the site URL. Any WordPress site will then redirect to the RSS2 feed link (or load the feed directly if the site does not support pretty permalinks like /feed).

Another alternative would be to fetch the available feeds from the site itself ; you'll find them declared in the site's head so you can do something like this:

const rssUrls = Array.from( rssLinks ).map( link => link.href );

Of course, that's only an option if you're okay making queries to the site directly, vs. the API.

the first option is tempting, we could send an http request to the server asking for /?feed=rss2 and look for a 300 response, and the body contains the url we were looking for. but the fact that it doesn't always return the redirect, sometimes it returns the feed text, makes it not suitable, or so it seems. unless i'm misunderstanding which i definitely could be.

i think the second option is the way to go, we can make it look like we're calling the api, and we do stuff like that elsewhere to get the OG metadata from the HTML source.

Correct. Some WordPress sites will serve the RSS feed directly from site.com/?feed=rss2.
