So in the context of the CG I'll point people to https://matrix.to/#/#solid_specification:gitter.im but in the context of the Solid Project as a whole we should still point people to https://matrix.to/#/#solid:converser.eu probably?

Suggestion: Could this be part of your work on https://github.com/solid/team/blob/main/tasks/developer-onboarding-experience.md and/or https://github.com/solid/team/blob/main/tasks/user-onboarding-experience.md ? I.e. create a proposal and present it on a Solid Team meeting for final decision?

I reckon the result should be pushed to solidproject.org at some point? Or is there a broader context you're thinking of wrt this issue?
