I'd like youtube videos to open in my preffered youtube client as it supports more stuff that aren't supported by Thunders player (and don't fit into the scope of the app), however when selecting "Play video with an external app" all videos open externally. For regular mp4s I don't want them to open in the browser as the browser interface for those is suboptimal.

Just FYI, the workaround you suggested is available. See this discussion: #1517 (comment)

Agreed with your overall feature request! We can definitely treat YouTube video separately from other kinds of videos.

Clicking that button opens the video in the built in browser where you have to open the menu and then open it in the external app, I meant a way to open it directly without loading the youtube website (especially due to privacy concerns)

@xvvx4554 Hmm, I think maybe this is more about how your browser works than how Thunder works. I use Firefox and the first time I open a YouTube link, it prompts me to open it externally with the option to always do that. If I chose always, next time it works flawlessly the way you're describing.

If you use a different browser, maybe that explains the difference in behavior?

I'm using Fennec so that shouldn't be a difference

Perhaps are you using the use system browser embeded option? When using that instead of the built in browset it opens directly in app as well

Ahh, I see the difference. You're using Thunder's built-in browser, not your system browser. Try this.

Yep, that's exactly it! Thunder's built-in browser isn't smart enough to know which URLs should be handled by external apps automatically.
