Window positions messed up after screen unlock

Title says it all. Using latest gnome on ArchLinux (x86_64 if that makes any sense). Even if I'm not using shellshape's tile function and the extensio is only left to be enabled, this still happens. Somehow extension effects windows positions even if you don't use extension itself.

Which shellshape version are you using?

When shellshape is enabled but in floating layout (i.e no tiling), it still remembers & sets window positions (otherwise nothing would change when you switched from tiled -> floating layouts). So this is kind of expected, but it should have been fixed by the same code as #107.

If you:

• enable a tiling layout, then
• change some split sizes, then
• lock your screen

does the layout reset after unlocking? If so, this is just #107 which should be fixed by updating the latest version.

I'm using version from extensions.gnome.org (no idea how to check version number :/ ). And yes, this happens while using floating layout. Is the version on extensions page is outdated?

(you can generally only tell if you've modified some split sizes before locking the screen, otherwise "positions have been reset" and "the expected positions" look the same)

extensions.gnome.org does have the latest version (they call it version 12), which you can double check against the version field in ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/shellshape@gfxmonk.net/metadata.json.

Yes, it happened whit both tiled and floating layout. Checked and it was latest version, strange thing that I've reinstalled extension and it works fine now. No idea what was wrong the first time I've installed it.

Oh, that's super weird then. Could be a bug in whatever code gnome-shell has to download / update extensions from gnome.org. Whatever the cause, sounds like it is at least fixed in the latest code, so that's good news :)

I'm running shellshape version 15 and indeed see this same behavior -- after locking/unlocking of the screen, window sizes are messed up (maybe they are set to the sizes they originally had when they appeared first time? ). The problem happens only on desktops with floating layout; tiled desktops seem to play nice now.

@emempi: thanks for pointing that out, it could definitely be an issue with floating layout. I'm busy for a little while, but I'll try and look into this sometime soon.

I'm afraid I couldn't reproduce, @emempi. The tiling code is remembering the position (and restoring it) after locking / unlocking for me.

If the windows are maximized (even if only vertically-maximized), they're not restored after unlocking the screen. Using Shellshape from GIT, GNOME 3.16.2.

Maybe it's bit old, but I just started using shellshape (which is awesome, btw) and experience the same. When in floating mode with maximized windows, lock and unlock messes up the size of all windows. Seems they are no longer maximized. Got shellshape vom e.g.o and use 3.20 on Arch.
