no such file when make docs

make: a2x: No such file or directory

Expected behavior

files in man folder:

Where is the compton.1 file ?

It looks like you are missing the a2x executable on your system.
This should be part of the build-time dependency asciidoc (at least on arch-based distros it is).

Hi, Ubuntu 20.04 here, that's solved by installing the asciidoc-base package, which is arround ~300mb and installs 115 more packages :(.

An optional 'make install' without docs can be possible? It would speed up the build outside arch distros a lot!

I don't really want to change the current default behavior. But feel free to edit the Makefile and remove the references to the manpages.

You can also give the actually maintained fork picom a try which does not generate the docs by default (see this fork for an improved implementation of the dual-kawase blur algorithm).
