I am a geographer with over 25 years in academia who made a deliberate pivot toward science policy and governance. I currently serve as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the Department of Energy's Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) office, where I work at the intersection of research, communication, and institutional collaboration. In this role, I initiated a community of practice to build trusted research relationships across U.S. and international scientific institutions, and I perform weekly executive reporting of scientific accomplishments and key milestones for senior DOE leadership including the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Under-Secretary for Science. This work involves rapidly locating, synthesizing, and translating complex science achievements into accessible narratives under tight deadlines — a challenge I've met by designing more efficient discovery and triage workflows. I have a work in progress on GitHub to semi-automate the collection of RSS feeds to monitor relevant science reporting from National Labs.
I also organized and submitted a workshop on Trusted Research Environments, bringing together high-performance computing scientists from DOE, national laboratories, and international partners.
