This PR is to update the dependencies that the package uses to the latest compatible versions to date. This addresses the following existing PRs (thanks to you all for your contributions, sorry for the overlap):

Finally, this PR includes the feature for #86 using @PFight's solution from his forked version of this code, which should also close out #87.
