Build errors against libxml 2.14.2

I'm having trouble installing the gem on a system with libxml 2.14.2 (log of rake compile:libxml_ruby is attached).

This is with an up-to-date Arch Linux and Ruby 3.3. After a recent libxml upgrade from 2.13.8 I first had issues with the already installed 5.0.3 version not finding libxml so files. Attempting a rebuild of the gem then led to this problem.

What is the compiler and its version?

gcc (GCC) 15.1.1 20250425

Same here, looks to be because latest version of gcc defaults to gnu23 now instead of gnu17.

jeremyevans/sequel_pg#59 - that was also causing issues in sequel_pg

I found installing ruby with these CFLAGS to fix the issue until libraries with native extensions get updated:

RUBY_CFLAGS="-std=gnu17 -Wno-implicit-function-declaration -Wno-old-style-definition" asdf install ruby 3.3.4

Ah, so it's not actually related to the libxml version but to gcc. I could successfully install the gem with:

gem install libxml-ruby -- --with-cflags="$(ruby -rrbconfig -e "puts RbConfig::CONFIG[\"CFLAGS\"]") -std=gnu17"

Yeah this code is trying to be too clever and use ANYARGS that Ruby provides. Will need to rewrite it a bit.
