slow startup time

I have noticed that sometimes polymodo takes a while to start up, I feel as if it only happens when I haven't started it in a while, but I wouldn't be able to put a number to it.

It sometimes even takes up to a second to start, however if I re-start it right after defocussing, then there is no problem and it starts fast.
Seems to be slow regardless of the use of `--single`
