Animation in the sidebar when changing accounts is too fast and hectic

Steps to reproduce

1. Open sidebar
2. Tap on "Unified Account" to switch to another account
3. Tap on one account

Expected behavior

The animation to display the account list (step 2) or the folders for the selected account (step 3) should be smooth and not irritating.

Actual behavior

With version 16 the animation has changed. It is now too fast and hectic, irritating.

I have animations ('gaudy effects') turned off in settings and it still does this which is pretty annoying.

Please refrain from using words like "irritating" or "annoying". They don't really represent the proper technical issues and sound a bit harsh.

We might explore the possibility to smooth out the animations a bit, but I think the most important part is ensure that animations don't happen if the user had them disabled OS wide.

In the app settings, not just the OS settings, you can switch off animations, but it's not respected.

I have "gaudy animations" disabled in K-9 Mail. As far as I can see I have not disabled anything related to animation OS-wide. I have no problems with animations in any other app I use.
I also had no problems with how changing accounts looked in K-9 Mail prior to the update to version 16.0.

Either the animations were added / changed with version 16.0 or the update broke the "gaudy animations" setting in K-9 Mail.

Why would I not use those words if they best describe how I personally experience the animations? After all, the bug report template is asking me to "describe the problem with as much detail as possible." English is not my first language and I am not a professional UI/UX designer, I don't have access to the correct technical vocabulary to describe the problems with the animations in a better way.

Anyway, it was not my intention to offend anyone personally with my word choices but I still wanted to express my frustration with these constant changes in the UI, which do not add any value for me. I guess there are functionality problems in the 900+ issues that maybe should be prioritized over polishing the UI. But that is just my personal opinion, and I might be alone with it.

It should respect the system settings, but the new/old UI doesn't. We need to investigate why. The in app setting seems to be broken for a while now. See also #6027
